I decided that apparently three projects at once weren't enough (Daniel Deronda riding habit, burgundy velvet evening bodice, and Edwardian jumper dress), and also that I am basically the mouse in If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. What this means is I went to go try on the skirt part of the Edwardian jumper so that I could put the waistband on it, and realized that I really needed to make the corset to go with it first.

So I finally put some lacing strips in the corset mockup that has been sitting untested on my dress form for nearly two years, and tried it on. It wasn't terribly far off from fitting, but it wasn't really giving me that s-bend silhouette I was going for. Luckily, last year, I purchased the Truly Victorian early Edwardian corset pattern (TVE01), so I mocked that one up (adding 1" of length to both the top and bottom first) and it fit almost perfectly! I cut down the top of the front a little, and took 1/4" out of the top of the middle back panels, but that was all I needed.

I have now fully assembled the corset pieces, including the front busk, and added bones around the lacing in the back. Unfortunately, I had no grommets, boning tape, and not enough boning in my stash, so that project has to get put aside until those supplies arrive, hopefully in a couple days. Here's a pic of the corset so far.

So now I have to decide what to work on today. Yesterday, I assembled the printed pattern pieces for both the Edwardian blouse from Black Snail Patterns, and a spencer pattern test for [personal profile] chocolatepot. I don't think I have the fabric I would need for the blouse, so I'm leaning towards the spencer. On the other hand, though, I bought a lovely Edwardian looking blouse from Target a couple weeks ago, and am thinking the only tweak it would need to be perfect is to add a high collar (which also probably means having it button up the back). So I may try doing that tonight instead.
