I'm definitely suffering from CADD right now. I'm in the early stages of both my 1830s day dress and 1830s gala gown. I know I had posted a pic of the gala gown last week, but there's been a slight change.

It's going to be orange! The one on the left is what I'm now doing, with the fabric in the background (the pink was the original plate from Ackermann's Repository, 1929). Today, I ordered shoes and silk organza, plus orange dye for both of them. And I think I'm going to try to get the multicolored trim by using variegated metallic thread in a haphazard fashion.

And the archery dress on the right is going to be my day dress! The color is going to be slightly off, since I'm again trying to use a bit from the stash. I have a light blue/shot gold for the bodice, and ivory vintage lace for the trimming. Tommorrow, I'm going to a fancy fabric store to see if I can find ivory silk taffeta for the skirt. Though I have to admit, I'm tempted to use the ivory silk brocade damask (or is it jacquard? I can never remember) that I have in the stash. It's a perfect match, color-wise, but I haven't seen any 30s plates with damask patterns.

I was good with actually working on sewing a bit today, too! I dug out my 1860s bodice pattern from the candy early bustle gown, and made it up as my mockup. But either it's the difference between the Regency corset I'll be wearing with these, or I really have lost that much weight (I think I'm 15lbs less than when I made that), but the back was humungous! I needed to add more to the front waist to smooth out a crazy wrinkle over the bust, though. I think I'm starting to get the hang of darts. :) I also marked where the neckline will be for the ballgown, so as long as those off-the-shoulder straps work out, my bodice bases should both be set.

I wound up not cutting out my linings, though, because I started working on a corded petticoat. Boy, is that going to be time-consuming. I'm doing it 90" wide, with quilting cotton and cotton crochet yarn, and I'm using the tuck method. So far, I have a whopping 5 tucks. It's going to take forever!

Oh, and why is it that whenever I really get into sewing mode, I wind up going on vacation? I'm determined to bring my handsewn 1860s with me, though. Maybe I'll finally finish those buttonholes. In any case, for any of you Bay Area people, I'll be at the PEERS ball on Saturday with my BF and parents. I'm super excited to get to go to ball! We don't seem to have any of those in Seattle. Now I just hope my dress fits!
