I got my Ariel bodice pleats all pinned into place. It actually wasn't that bad, though it was a little challenging getting both sides to match. My plan is to topstitch the pleats about 1/4" away from the folded edge. You can't see any topstitching in the parks bodice, but I honestly have no other idea how they would be sewn down (and I'm not getting paid enough for this to stitch them all by hand from the inside). So my goal for tomorrow is to actually stitch them in place, and finish assembling the bodice, so that I can move on to the sleeves.

Here's a pic of the pleats. I haven't cut off the excess fabric yet.

I also went to Joanns, and purchased fabric to make my first six samples - Rapunzel, Anna, Elsa, Ariel, Cinderella, and Snow White. And I bought a really cool Disney princess print to make a couple of adult size skirts (one of which I will probably keep for myself). I figure, especially with the licensed prints, skirts are quick, easy, and cute, too!

My hoops that I purchased to cannabalize for my Victorian child outfit arrived today, too. I'm disappointed, but I think I can make them work. I'm tempted to fully remake them, (but probably won't) because they're made of nylon instead of cotton. Ew. And it's not real hoopsteel. In fact, it almost looks like flat steel, like for corsets. I cut off the bottom two hoops, though, and if I take a tuck out of the area above the top hoop, they provide a decent shape. At least they were pretty cheap!

sadly, there is no hoopsteel anymore. the factory that made it closed. what's being used now is more like corset flat steel.

Yeah, I had heard about the factory, but I didn't realize it had already been closed down long enough that the premade hoopskirts would have the new substitute. I had heard of other people ordering premade ones so that they could use the hoopsteel out of them. Any idea how well the corset type steel keeps it's shape?

Thank you! I swear, when Disney redid all their princess costumes a few years ago, they purposely made them more challenging to make...
