May. 11th, 2015 09:41 amI've switched gears, and in what little sewing time I've had this week, I've been working on the Belle commission. So far, I have the underskirt nearing completion. The base skirt itself is done, and I've dyed and cut the silk organza, and cut the lace for the ruffled tiers. I think it's going to look really pretty! I've only just draped the fabrics over the base skirt so far, but the pale yellow organza looks really nice over the lace and base skirt. Right now, I'm in the process of sewing together the organza panels, then I have to hem them all, gather them with the lace, and attach them to the base skirt. Then the underskirt will be done, and it will be on to stamping all the velvet.
I have also done a little bit more smocking on Little Red, though it has definitely slowed down this last week. But I think I have one more row left before it will be long enough to cut. Unfortunately, that means I will have to find some other project to take on the bus for handsewing!
One of the reasons I haven't had much time, though, is that I've started giving my sewing lessons. I've already had two lessons with one of the students, and one with the other student. They're both coming along quite nicely, and I think we'll probably be into projects soon. But between work, theatre (though luckily, rehearsals for 1776 don't start for two more weeks), and the sewing lessons, it's very hard to find time to actually sew!
