My BF's 18th c suit has had two showings already! I worked nonstop all Saturday making the breeches and putting in the coat lining. It certainly would have been nice to have known before I drafted the breeches pattern that there is actually a Simplicity pattern for drop-front breeches. And apparently, I am good enough at drafting patterns now that my back piece came out to within 1cm or less on all sides of the Simplicity pattern (though after actually fitting them to him, I wound up taking them in a ton anyway). Sean helped by making all the covered buttons and sewing them all on. There's a lot of buttons on this suit!

Anyway, we made it to my friend's party on Saturday night (1.5hrs late). The jacket had no cuffs, the breeches cuffs were missing two buttons each, and the jacket lining was loose at the hem. But still quite decent. I wore Jane, and we made quite an entrance!

Naturally, when we got home, all prepared to sew the cuffs and lining, the power was out. So this morning, I spent another 1.5 hrs or so making the cuffs (which for some reason really confused me) and machine basting the lining in, while the bf made breakfast and fixed and finished his breeches buttons. I wore my curtain-along pet en l'air from last year, and we got to the event less than 30 mins late!

The event consisted of a German-style luncheon in an old-looking pub (playing 1990s music) in Pioneer Square, and chit-chatting with other SITU members. The food was surprisingly delicious! Afterwards, the bf and I wandered around the Pioneer Square area, went in some shops, and had a photo shoot. One antique store clerk even asked us to take pictures in some antique chairs and email him the results.

Here's a small sample. Go to my FB page for the rest. I hope to have all the pics there by tomorrow night.

Stomacher

I picked up my boning order on my way home from work this evening, so I was able to finish the stomacher tonight! And since I'm posting from my computer instead of the phone, you even get to see a picture. Now I just hope it all fits.

If it's slow at work tomorrow (we've been doing lots of busywork this week), then maybe I'll even get to start the engageants. Otherwise, tomorrow night (after I see Monsters U!) I want to cut out the lining pieces for the 17th c bodice.

I finished the front panel of the stomacher today. It's not much, but at least it's something! I just wish I could pick up the boning sooner and finish the rest of it. Edit: stupid livejournal mobile thing ate my picture. I tried, I really did. Isn't there an easy way to get a picture from my phone to LJ? And now the html is all weird, so I'll bet this post is going to look wonky... *grumble*

Stomachers are boned, aren't they?

I finished the pet en l'air yesterday morning. I did most of the cuffs while sitting at the beach after work on Sunday, since I did just about everything with the cuffs by hand. Today, I was working on the stomacher, but I won't be able to finish it until at least Friday, since I can't pick up the boning I need for it until then. I'll also be making engageants out of the leftover embroidered net trim from the Regency gown. I have just enough!

This whole pet en l'air was made out of one curtain panel. And even after making the four bows for the front of the stomacher, I found that I still have just enough of the fabric left for if I want to make a second stomacher with the curtain panel fabric as the background.

But here's a few stomacher-less pictures:

We performed at the 5th Ave Theatre tonight for Gondoliers, which was really cool! That's the theatre that does pre-Broadway shows, big  professional musicals, and touring shows. I would love so much to be in a show with them.

But since I was busy with that tonight, as I figured, I didn't get much sewing done. I bound the top of the back pleats, and hand-sewed the top 3" of the pleats down, but that's all I managed. I don't know that I'll do much better tomorrow, since I have rehearsal after work. All I really need to do are the cuffs and stomacher!

Sleevil

Oh sleevil, how I hate thee! I've gone through 2.5 mockups already, and they still don't seem right. They for nicely in the armseye, and fit fine around the arm, but then they're coming up from the bottom of the armseye into the armpit, and it's feeling very tight there. I had tried to use the sleeve pattern that goes with the pet in Janet Arnold, but I think I might have to try something different tomorrow.

All I need are sleeves, and about 8" of binding along the back neckline, and the pet en l'air will be done! Oh, and I have yet to do the stomacher/trimming. But I haven't really decided how I want to do that yet...

Today I stitched all the pleats in place, and did all my eyelets to lace up the back lining. I've decided to put two pieces of 1/4" boning in each side of the back by the lacing, but that's going to have to wait to be purchased until at least Wed, when I'm back up by the fabric store.

The pieces are assembled, and the fashion fabric is attached to the lining, including the hand sewing I did to attach the lining underneath the back pleats. I've pleated up and pinned the side pleats, and that will be hand sewn tomorrow. The front and bottom edges and the pocket slits ate already finished off, but I will need to bind the tops of the back pleats. I also still need to work out the back pleats and stitch them down and do the eyelets in the lining back.

Then it's just sleeves and trimming/stomacher stuff. And that really depends on how much fabric is left that can be scraped together...

I'd love to be finished with this by Tuesday night, but I'm spending Monday at the Folklife Festival, so I'm not sure that will happen.

I really am crazy. When I washed my curtain-along fabric, it shrank. Only about 2-3" on each side. But considering I was already so short on fabric...

Last night, I turned my little bodice mockup into a full mockup of the whole pet en l'air. I tried it on over the stays tonight, and it fit perfectly! Of course, since I turned up short on the fabric when I went to go cut out my pieces, it means I'm subtracting an additional inch out of each suD of the saque, and from each of the pleated sections that go over the panniers. I hope it doesn't change the look! I will also wind up needing to piece my sleeves, my side piece that I had already planned is just slightly of the straight of the grain, and I'm pretty sure there will be no self trimmings on this.

And while I have taken a few pictures of the muslin mockup, it takes too long to go about posting them. I'll try to post pics (both of this, and of my regency petticoat) in the next couple days.

This morning I had the bright idea that what I really should do for the curtain-along is make a pet en l'air. The one in Janet Arnold just looks so easy! One big piece, right?

Except of course for the fact that my fabric is 6.5" (per side) shorter than what I need.

Since I'm pig-headed, though, would it be really obvious to piece a little 6.5" panel right about where the pocket slit goes? I'm wearing this over pocket hoops, if it makes any difference.

So far all I've done is mocked up the bodice front and back, and draped them onto my pillow/stays form, over the turque underbodice, so that I know it will fit. I did have to make a huge dart, but I'm hoping once I take it off the form, I can still lay it out flat.

Also, all my regency stuff is done, including buttons and thread loops. I may add another eyelet to each corset strap, though, since I'm not in love with the ones I currently have on there. I'll post petticoat pictures soon, since it's also my HSF squares project.
